The Mój Prąd program, introduced in 2019, is very popular among individual investors. In December 2023, the fifth edition of the project ended, with almost 91,000 applications submitted (NFOŚiGW data). Recently, the Ministry of Climate and Environment - to the delight of the photovoltaic industry and all those interested in investing in renewable energy sources - announced the planned launch of the next edition, which is to start this year. Will it be possible to obtain a subsidy for the energy storage itself this time? What is known about Mój Prąd 6.0?
Will My Electricity 6.0 emphasize energy storage?
As part of the fifth edition of the Mój Prąd program, beneficiaries could receive a subsidy for the purchase and installation of a home photovoltaic installation, energy storage, heat storage and HEMS/EMS system. Moreover, the subsidies included solar collectors and heat pumps (ground, air-to-air, air-to-water and air-to-water with an increased energy class) – which distinguished the fifth edition from the previous ones. According to the first reports, the sixth edition of the program is to emphasize energy storage.
According to Ewelina Steczkowska, spokeswoman for the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, the new edition of the Mój Prąd program will support hybrid solutions, i.e. PV installations with an energy storage. In other words, energy storage devices are to be "obligatory" in applications for funding. This is explained by the incomplete efficiency of photovoltaic installations without energy storage systems. A PV installation without a storage device is not able to cover the entire demand for electricity in a household at every hour of the day. Obligatory support for home energy storage devices was to be a way to effectively use the energy produced by increasing self-consumption.
Investing in an energy storage facility can pay off – especially in the context of the current net-billing system and the introduction of hourly energy billing. Buying an energy storage facility can significantly shorten the payback period for purchasing and installing the entire photovoltaic installation.
The priority now is to close the fifth recruitment round.
Currently, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management is finalizing the recruitment for the fifth edition of the Mój Prąd program. Many beneficiaries are still waiting for the funds to be paid out. Let us recall that the last edition of the program ended in mid-December 2023. By mid-February this year, over 509 thousand households could count on support - a total of almost PLN 2.5 billion was paid out. According to information from the Ministry of Climate and Environment, funds from the FEnIKS program (European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027) will probably be released to settle the fifth recruitment.
The FEnIKS program, the largest national program in the entire EU in terms of finances and the number of support areas, is the successor to two previous projects Infrastructure and Environment, implemented in 2007-2013 and 2014-2020. Its aim is to improve the country's development conditions by building technical and social infrastructure in accordance with the assumptions of sustainable development. According to preliminary findings, the budget of the sixth edition of the My Electricity program may also benefit from FEnIKS funds, which will probably affect the period of qualifying investment costs.

What about the dates of cost qualification in Mój Prąd 6.0?
According to NFOŚiGW representatives, the cost eligibility period for the sixth edition of Mój Prąd will be within the program. The industry emphasizes that the initial cost eligibility date should be the end of MP5, i.e. December 2023. At the same time, the time frame of the FEnIKS program is 2021-2027. This means that prosumers who did not manage to apply in the previous edition of the Mój Prąd program will probably submit it now.
What funding can you count on?
This is not yet known. However, we can assume that the rates will be similar or even higher than those in force in the recently completed edition of the program. At that time, it was possible to apply for a subsidy of up to 50% of eligible costs, with the total amount not exceeding PLN 58,000. Let us recall that the budget of Mój Prąd 5.0 was PLN 950 million.
Will Mój Prąd 6.0 launch this year? We don't know yet. According to the first reports, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and the Ministry of Environment are making every effort to agree on the terms of the new edition as soon as possible. All we can do is wait for the next updates.
