What is retrofitting?
Retrofitting is the addition of an additional single - phase AC inverter to an existing installation, the task of which is to charge the battery connected to it and to provide this stored energy to the selected phase, or, if necessary, to the emergency circuit. The retrofit inverter does not require a direct connection to the main inverter.
The energy storage solution with an inverter (AC charger) can be used for various applications that provide system owners with energy independence by using the energy storage to store energy and using the energy stored in it when needed. Importantly, the retrofit system works with photovoltaic inverters from any company.

Will this system work off grid?
The retrofit system, in order to power the receivers in the event of a power grid failure, requires a special output in the inverter. In the SOFAR inverter, this output is called LOAD and all receivers that are to be powered in the event of a voltage failure in the grid should be connected to it. In addition, to prevent the voltage from appearing from our energy storage to the AC grid, an appropriate AC contactor should be installed. The task of the contactor is to cut off the current flow to the grid in the event of entering off-grid mode. The contactors tested by Mielecki Instytut Technologiczny automatically disconnect from the grid and switch the inverter to EPS ( Emergency Power Supply ) mode within about 2 seconds. It is important that it is an AC contactor with 2xNO and 2xNC contacts. Do you want to know more? Contact us!
FAQ
- Is it possible to charge the energy storage from the grid?
Yes, the energy storage can be charged from the grid. The user selects the hours at which the storage will charge.
- Is it worth purchasing an energy storage kit with a charger for the PV installation?
By purchasing an energy storage facility, in addition to savings, we also gain the possibility of emergency power supply in the event of a power outage from the power grid.
- How is such a kit connected to the household electrical installation?
The inverter charger is connected in parallel to the circuit of one of the phases, which requires changes in the electrical distribution board. The circuits located behind the inverter are supported by a contactor (connected in series) in the event of a power failure in the network.
- Without a contactor, will there be no EPS function on a circuit powered by SOFARA?
If an external contactor is not used, the EPS function will not work automatically, the user will have to manually connect to these outputs (for example, an additional socket to which something can be connected in an emergency) or manually switch the circuits.
